THE BAND
"Injecting their brand of jazz with a healthy shot of alternative rock, St. Barbe deliver a slick, fresh take on the genre that brings it straight into the twenty-first century."
Guitar Magazine
"This band opened for us last night in London and they were unbelievable"
Dennis Chambers (Mike Stern Band, Santana, Steely Dan)
Known for their progressive, genre-bending brand of math rock, St. Barbe have just released their second EP, Shoal, featuring a collaboration with Mercury-shortlisted artist corto.alto.
The band made their debut in 2021 with Shapeless, a self-produced and independently released three-track EP which garnered support from Spotify’s editorial playlists and a feature in Guitar Magazine. They have twice sold out Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, opened for legendary guitarist Mike Stern at the Jazz CafE, and supported math-rock outfit Cobota — a testament to their genre-defying versatility.
Following the release of their single Tierra in 2025, the band began receiving significant national radio support, with plays from key tastemakers on Jazz FM, including Jez Nelson and China Moses, as well as Soweto Kinch on BBC Radio 3’s Round Midnight.
The follow-up single Pinch, featuring corto.alto, was featured on BBC Radio 6 Music’s New Music Fix Daily and later selected by Stuart Maconie for Freak Zone, with both tracks receiving editorial playlist support across Spotify and Apple Music. Their follow-up single Dorothy was also named ‘Track of the Week’ by Mark Walker on Jazz FM, while Shoal was championed by Prog Magazine.
With over a million streams to date and listeners drawn from the worlds of jazz, post-rock and metal, St. Barbe’s impossible-to-pin-down sound remains on a trajectory all of its own.
